Meet Ian Edwards: Expert SEND Consultant and Advocate for Inclusive Education

With over 20 years of experience in the education sector, spanning the UK, Thailand, Dubai, the Channel Islands, and Portugal, I’m Ian Edwards, a UK-trained SENCO with a deep commitment to supporting schools in enhancing their SEND provisions. My journey began as a secondary and sixth-form drama teacher, but my passion for inclusion and seeing the potential in every student shaped my career and led me to become a SENCO. I hold a NASENCO postgraduate qualification, equipping me with the expertise to drive positive change in schools worldwide.

My work as a SENCO grew from my early experiences in economically challenged areas of West Yorkshire, where I witnessed firsthand the unmet needs of students. These formative years taught me the importance of acting as a catalyst for change, ensuring every child receives the support they need. I realised that to truly create inclusive learning environments, schools must remove barriers to learning by empowering teachers, staff, and the wider community to continuously reflect on their practices, the surrounding context, and the voices of their students.

At iSEND Consultancy, our mission is to provide tailored, specialist support to schools that are dedicated to maximizing outcomes for students with SEND. We believe that inclusion is not just a goal—it’s a mindset that must permeate every aspect of a school’s culture. Our approach is grounded in identifying, investing, implementing, and generating impact, ensuring each school can meet the diverse needs of its students while fostering a truly inclusive environment.

I work collaboratively with schools, offering cost-effective, flexible remote consultancy services to refine their SEND provisions. Through regular audits, strategy development, staff training, and ongoing guidance, I help schools align with best practices and continually improve their support for students with SEND.

My philosophy is simple: every school should be fully inclusive, empowering both students and staff to succeed. By providing expert guidance and fostering a culture of continuous improvement, I aim to help schools remove barriers to learning and unlock the potential of every child.
